What's happening to your driveway, and how fast it gets worse
OKC Driveway Repair Co. is a concrete and asphalt driveway contractor serving Oklahoma City and the metro. Almost every call we get starts with one of these four problems. All four get more expensive the longer they wait.
-
A panel dropped at the garage
Backfill beside the foundation settles and a downspout soaks it. Lifting a sunken panel runs about $3–$15 per sq ft. Once it cracks through, it has to be replaced.
-
Cracks that open every summer
Red clay under OKC shrinks in drought and leaves voids under the slab. Each cycle widens the crack and lets more water reach the base.
-
A lip someone will trip on
The 2010 ADA Standards (§303.2) allow only ¼ inch of vertical change before an edge needs beveling. A heaved panel at the sidewalk is a liability.
-
Water washing out the edge
Runoff that follows the slab carries the base away a little with every hard rain, until the unsupported edge cracks and drops.

DIY patch vs the cheapest bid vs a driveway done properly
Most failed OKC drives didn't fail because of the concrete. They failed because of what's under it and what was skipped. Here's what to look for on any quote.
| What matters | DIY patch | Cheapest bid | Done properly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base | Patches over whatever is there | Native clay graded flat, little or no stone | Soft clay dug out; 4–6 in. compacted crushed stone |
| Concrete | Bagged mix, hand-mixed, no air | Spec not on the quote | 4,000–4,500 psi air-entrained ready-mix, in writing |
| Thickness | Whatever the bags cover | 4 in., often thinner at edges | 5 in. with thickened edges |
| Reinforcement | None | Mesh lying on the dirt | #3 rebar on chairs; dowels into old concrete |
| Joints | None | Tooled late or skipped | Saw-cut within 24 h to ¼ depth, ~10 ft apart; ½ in. expansion joints |
| Curing | Left to dry | Left to dry | Membrane curing compound; no cars for 7 days |
| Permit at the street | Skipped | Often skipped | Pulled per OKC Code §50-116 |

Driveway repair questions, answered
How much does driveway repair cost in Oklahoma City?
Most driveway repairs in Oklahoma City cost $250 to $2,500. Crack sealing runs $3–$8 per linear foot, and lifting sunken panels runs $3–$15 per square foot. Full concrete replacement costs $8–$13 per square foot, about $3,800–$6,200 for a two-car drive. Your exact price is written down after we measure.
Should I repair or replace my driveway?
Repair it if the panels are still mostly level and the damage is limited to a few cracks or one or two sunken panels. Replace it when more than about a third of the panels are broken, sunken or scaling, or when the base has washed out under large areas. Our free damage assessment tool walks through the cutoffs.
Why do driveways crack and sink so much in Oklahoma City?
Two reasons: the soil and the weather. Much of the metro sits on red Permian clays such as the Kirkland series, which shrink in drought and swell when wet, leaving voids under slabs. Oklahoma City also averages 71 days a year at or below freezing, so water in cracks freezes and thaws dozens of times each winter.
Do I need a permit for driveway work in Oklahoma City?
For work that reaches the approach in the city right-of-way, yes. Oklahoma City Code §50-116 requires a permit to construct, replace or repair a driveway, and §50-117 issues it only to a licensed sidewalk or paving contractor. We pull it as part of the job. Suburbs such as Edmond and Norman issue their own permits.
Will you take a small job, like one panel or an apron?
Yes. Single-panel replacements, apron repairs, expansion-joint replacement and one-off crack sealing all get a free on-site estimate. A small-job minimum applies to cover the crew and equipment trip, and it is written on the quote before we schedule.
How fast can you come out?
We respond the same day you call during business hours, and most estimates are on site within 1–2 business days. Washouts, collapsed panels and trip hazards on commercial property are triaged first through our emergency driveway repair line.
